Homeward Bound of Western North Carolina is a nonprofit in Asheville dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness through permanent housing and supportive services. Since 1987, we’ve served people experiencing homelessness throughout Buncombe County, adopting the nationally recognized Housing First model in 2006. Homeward Bound’s core programs include Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) for those who have experienced chronic homelessness with co-occurring disabilities, Rapid Re-Housing for individuals and families who need shorter-term support, and Homeless Prevention services for those with housing instability. Our outreach team works directly with people living unsheltered—under bridges, in tents, or in cars—connecting them with resources, support, and ultimately, housing. Since 2006, Homeward Bound has housed over 2,700 unique individuals, proving that with housing, support, and community collaboration, homelessness is solvable.
