The Appalachian Regional Ministry was developed in response to the Trinity vestry call to explore ministry opportunities beyond our local efforts. After studying alternatives, we decided to start out helping our neighbors here in the Appalachian areas of WNC.

We found a group of ministers in Graham County already trying to address needs in their area and they needed help. Our group wanted to listen and learn more about their poverty. This is one of the poorest counties in the state. They only have one school and one grocery store. There are almost no jobs. Over half the children live in poor or low-income households.

To help meet these needs, volunteers go out to Graham County every month to work alongside local volunteers. Together we unload a Manna food truck and repackage big boxes of fruits and vegetables into individual serving sizes so they can be given to family members. Afterwards, we go to work in the kitchen and help prepare a meal to feed 300 people. There are other needs, of course, including inadequate housing, a safe social gathering place for youth, and economic development.

With God’s help, we can address some of those areas over time. In the meantime, it has been a real blessing to be able to see HIs hand already at work. If you feel this is a ministry you would like to support, we would welcome your help. Thank you.
