Travel to Atlanta

with Our Senior High Mission Team! 

The Christian Education Committee and Youth Council challenge you to become partners with our Atlanta Senior High Mission Team! When we commission our senior high mission team in worship on Sunday, July 25 we will promise to uphold them in prayer and see their ministry as an extension of our mission here at FPC-A. 

Though the whole church can not travel with the senior highs to Atlanta, you can become partners with them by learning more about their upcoming ministry with DOOR (Discovering Opportunities for Outreach & Reflection) in Atlanta. FPC-member and former librarian Juanita Spanogle has gathered together a bibliography of resources on Atlanta, poverty and homelessness. These resources are available for check out at through the Buncombe County library system. Several books on homelessness are also available at the church on the library cart in the Wallace Foyer.  Several good websites about homelessness are listed below:

Another way you can partner with our senior highs is to help them put together Hygiene Kits which they will take to Atlanta. Several of the agencies in Atlanta provide hygiene items to the homeless and the poor through their Outreach Centers. People living on the streets or in their cars, or those who are staying with friends while they try to right their lives, they often have very basic needs – including soap, shampoo and toothpaste.  

The following items can be dropped off in the blue tubs located in the Wallace Foyer and the children’s hall before the departure July 25:  

·         Toothpaste (Small tubes)

·         Toothbrushes

·         Soap (Small, shower gel liquid soap or small wrapped bars)

·         Razors (Capped plastic razors, unused please)

·         Shampoo (Small bottles or travel-size bottles)

·         Conditioner (Small bottles or travel-size bottles)

·         Body lotion (Small travel size bottles)

·         Combs or hair brushes (small size)

·         Deodorant

·         Washcloths (New)
